We recommend people charge their battery every 5 to 6 months even though there will still be power stored at that point. It will definitely hold a charge for 8 hours.

If I charge the solar batter from the computer, how long will the charge stay.

For example I charge it and then travel all day and use it at night to keep my phone and or ipad charged?

Will the full charge I get from a laptop or wall not hold the charge for 8 hours?

Seems a little strange that these have routers mounted on the underside which can be remotely accessed thru the AT&T wireless network.

Some of them are mounted on Aluminum poles and don't look to be wired into anything.

It doesn't seem incredible that the routers can be remotly accessed and would of course be able to see any wireless networks within range.

Seems like a series of overlapping routers giving wide coverage and access to any WiFi signal and considering the possibilities they could be used for surveillance and by Law all network encryption can be accessed by remote users with the "Proper" or "Improper" Authority.

They are below the powerlines and transformers so they are shaded and not super efficient but locating them on Poles everywhere with my knowledge as a Programmer who tested security on systems for Prudential I have to say the oppertunity for abuse is there.

Think of it this way also:

We are at war.
In WWII they Tapped Phones
If you wanted a way to watch the traffic without accessing thru the internet (aka "Hacking") then these would be a perfect way to keep an eye on whats being transmitted which everyone should know resembles a Postcard more than a sealed envelope.

Just Food for thought . . .

Hi Blair,

You're not out of luck, you can get this cradle: http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-DMW-BCG10-DMW-BCG10E-DMW-BCG10PP-Panasonic/dp/B003SG0BSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1336567916&sr=8-3

Plus get our 3.5x1.3mm adapter in our optional phone adapter section here: http://www.voltaicsystems.com/adapters.shtml#phone This will allow you to connect from the solar panel to the camera cradle.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi:

I have a Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera. The charger says it is a DE-A65. The battery says DMW-BCG10PP. Don't see any cradles for my camera. Am I out of luck when it comes to using your product?

Hey Voltaic!!! I am in Zambia and am using your charger in my village EVERY DAY! It is amazing, very robust, and the absolute best purchase I made to prepare for my service. Everything else I brought with me has proved to break or be useless in time... my charger goes with me everywhere and honestly would recommend your product not just to fellow Peace Corps volunteers, but any true outdoorsman or anyone who plans on spending any time travelling around the world. You can depend on this product. Solar panels are cheap and inexpensive here, but can't hold a candle to the quality you all provide. Makes me so proud that I can rely on American products still to be the finest in the world. Mwendangahu Mwani!

Hi Jeremy...

I also have a D90 and I'm headed to Peru in June for three weeks... This looks like a great backpacking solution. Did you purchase this system and did it work well for you?

Thanks in advance... Jay

Hi Rick, the Spark is probably best suited for charging the iPad. If you're looking for something that costs a bit less, you could pair the Switch or Fuse 4W with the V39 battery upgrade. Send us an email to sales at voltaicsystems dot com with a copy of the acceptance letter and we'll provide the discount code. Thanks, Jeff
